The device (ram pump) can extracted and transferred water from low to high place via using the level gap of water in natural environment, especially for the place where lack of electricity or power grid. In addition, this device can also combine with the functions of monitoring and detecting, including Arduino , solar panels and the remote communication module. When the device failed, it will send electronic signals of abnormal condition to the operator.
1/ Device Demonstration: The tutors will demo the device and to show how it operate.
2/ Principle Explanation: The tutors will explain the principles of the device.
3/ Function Explanation: The tutors will explain all parts of the device.
4/ Assembly Demonstration: The tutors will demo how to assemble and install the device.
5/ Grouping & Practice: All participants will be divided into two groups – pump and detection, and will practice the process of assembling the device. After finishing, two groups will be exchanged.
6/ Comprehensive Discussion: The tutors will organize the discussion.

This workshop will explain how upcycling, Human Centred Design and nudging can be
used to implement a unique form of humanitarian aid. Learn about the variety of ‘Low Tech’
product designs and produce them with us out of recyclable materials. Be inspired by real
stories of how a collaboration with grassroots NGOs has fostered local entrepreneurship and
self-determined human development as well as crisis recovery. Learn about how you can take
this idea and can be develop it and foster in a community facing basic human needs.
Help the world by empowering communities to solve their own problems using the recyclable
materials that they produce and live in.

Workshop 1st part – Applying Human Centred Design & low tech problem solving
Seminar on how a Human Centred Design community engagement approach can bring a low
tech idea from one community from the other side of the world to your community. Learn about
nudging and strategic communications in disempowered communities. Practical examples from
working with children, teenagers, students and adults from India, China, Hong Kong and Jordan.

Workshop 2nd part – Practically applying Low Tech solutions in a development context
Come and build low tech designs out of trash that are needed in slums and refugee camps.
You’ll have the chance to make items that have made a difference to Syrian refugees in Jordan.
Learn to utilize different varieties of trash to build solutions to the problems found in poor
communities. Try new upcycle production methods you probably have never heard from before.

Workshop 3rd part – Project cycle of Low Tech Innovations in a development context
How to design a community making process using low tech designs and Human Centred
Design. Will cover: project management of humanitarian projects; mapping needs, resources
and communities; project lifecycle; and impacts of this new form of humanitarian development.
Save lives, time and money by making local solutions to global problems instead of importing
people and products.

Bio Georg Hoehne
Georg, a team member of Field Ready on the ground team in Jordan, has been working for
several years for think tanks, NGOs, grassroots organisations and international companies
following is BA in International Relations from the University of Essex, and a MSc in Global
Politics from the London School of Economics. Frustrated with the lack of innovation in the
development and disaster relief sectors he started to implement a human cantered design
project in a slum in India where the inhabitants of a slum together with universities, grassroots
NGOs and a product safety organisation. The resulting upcycled water heater lead him to
implement more projects in refugee camps in Berlin, Germany, Shenzhen, China and Hong
Kong. As an Innovation Advisor for Field Ready he promotes the making in the Field approach
using recycled materials. He recently finished a development project to field test various low
tech development solutions in host communities in Jordan. Throughout his work, he developed
a unique Human Centred Design approach to implement sustainable development projects.
