FAB13

 ¿How can designers -through the use of digital fabrication- make, think and learn in a more exploratory way? How can designers develop more creative processes and designs in a more relational, exploratory and interactive way? This presentation shows from an academic perspective and through the lens of computation - understood as a visual act, not necessarily digital- experiments and projects around the world of interactive digital fabrication and new ways of making where error, imprecision and ambiguity are part of the process. 

“Using photos and videos from within Syria, Field Ready will present the story of how humanitarian makers in Syria have made life-saving search and rescue equipment and other essential aid supplies in the most difficult of circumstances. The Fab Foundation has been funding this work over the last year, in a project – dubbed ‘RescueTech’ – that has brought together an international team committed to the highest standards of aid work and local manufacturing. Field Ready will talk about what is next in this work, announce a vital new partnership and explain how everyone at Fab13 to get involved in humanitarian making.”

I am a designer, originally from Poland. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Royal College of Art in London. 3 years ago I moved to Denmark to work as a designer at LEGO. I am currently running my own creative studio in Vejle, Denmark and taking FAB ACADEMY 2017 to explore new ideas and apply new technologies in my future projects. There are a lot of fablabs in Europe ! How many makers get the chance to meet each others to Learn, Make and Share in real life !? Making it easier for makers to travel to other fablab would increase the following positive externalities. Thousand of students travel with the european program erasmus. There are also thousand of makers but there isn’t any program for them in Europe. That's our project since 2013. Creating a new continental program exclusively reserved for fablabs and makers.

UBO Open Factory : a Fablab used in the University of Brest as a new pedagogical tool. This talk is intended to present the example of the use of a Fablab in the University as a new flexible pedagogical tool available for trainers and students. What kind of values are shared by DIY / Makers and education sciences trought this tool, and its result upon the well being and creativity of the students.
