Audit 2B

The Fab Lab is the perfect environment to introduce students to the Engineering Design Process. The ability to digitally design a solution to a problem and then fabricate a prototype is at the heart of the Fab Lab experience. Engaging in the Engineering Design Process allows students to come face-to-face with failure in the context of testing the prototype and redesigning the solution. This workshop will help teachers use the Engineering Design Process to contextualize their Fab Lab projects and in turn make the Engineering Design Process come alive for their students.

1. Introduction to the eight steps of the Engineering Design Process
A. Ask
B. Identify Design Requirements
C. Imagine
D. Plan
E. Create
F. Test and Evaluate
G. Improve
H. Communicate
2. Example project developed in the Fab Lab
3. Connecting the Fab Lab project to each of the steps in Engineering Design Process
