Participants team up and are challenged to use a 2D CAD program to design a 3D "robot" completely from scratch, using the laser cutter. Power comes from a Sphero robot, which can be live controlled or coded. Teams attempt to code their vehicle to complete an obstacle course. The overarching theme of the lesson focuses on how engineers are often tasked with creating robots to complete specific tasks, such as cleaning up nuclear waste. The driving purpose of this workshop is to both engage with the content while simultaneously discussing how this lesson can be efficiently scaffolded for students of varying ages and skill sets.
